My approach is empathic, collaborative, and results-oriented. That means that I’m actively working with you to identify your strengths, uncover what’s getting in the way, and develop strategies for both immediate relief and lasting change.
I use two primary modalities, tailored to your needs and goals:
Psychodynamic Talk Therapy
We will discuss your goals in life, where you would like to be and how you would like to feel, and examine what may be getting in the way of those goals. Sometimes experiences from the past can influence us in ways that are no longer productive. We may find ourselves governed by unconscious patterns or beliefs that are no longer serving us. Together, with curiosity and compassion we will examine what has brought you to therapy, what is going on now and/or what lives in the past. With new insight, understanding, and proven strategies, you will discover the strength and capacity to face current challenges and achieve your goals.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
For clients whose present struggles are rooted in past trauma, EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based treatment. We’ll examine the beliefs about yourself that stem from painful past experiences that have been incompletely “processed,” i.e., stored in the brain in such a way that they are too easily reactivated in the present. By talking about these past events while using bilateral physical stimulus (side-to-side eye movements or tapping) these “stuck” memories can be reprocessed, in a sense resolved and stored in a way that prevents the associated bad feelings from resurfacing. The result is an understanding of yourself that more truly reflects your actual strengths in the present, no longer held back by behaviors that may have worked in the past, but are no longer useful in the present.
In our first sessions, we’ll discuss your goals and determine which approach, or a combination of the two, is right for you.
